This was my first time seeing a gig in the Captains Rest, and despite nearly falling down the stairs a few times, it was a really impressive venue with great sound quality throughout the night.
There were 4 overall supporting acts before Tommy Reilly took to the stage, some coming from far out as Canada,  however the one that really caught my attention was 19 year old, Rae Morris who has recently been signed to Atlantic Records.
Arriving onstage, looking slightly nervous, Rae Morris performed the first of many original songs, which instantly captured the awaiting audience. Her flawless, soulful vocals were accompanied by the sound of the piano as she played hits such as’ Day one’ and ‘For You’ before confessing to the crowd that this was only her second time in Glasgow.

The singer-songwriter from Blackpool provided short annicdotes before performing some of the songs which enabled many of the crowd to relate to the very raw lyrics, thus creating a really warming atmosphere throughout the room.
Towards the end of the set, Morris explained that she wanted to give back to fans and was hoping to do so by putting some free tracks online for fans to download, creating an applause from the audience.

This was definetly the first time I have been totally drawn in and left in complete awe throughout a supporting acts performance. Rae Morris seems to be incredibly greatful for the opportunity to play live music around the UK, and this was evident through her performance on stage. I really hope to hear more from her in the future.
And after the 30 minute set, Tommy Reilly took to the stage . The Scottish singer-songwriter, who first recieved a recording contract after winning the tv talent show ‘Orange Unsigned Act’, performed an acoustic set of mainly new, unreleased songs, which provided us with a preview of whats in store for the upcoming album. Songs performed on the night included, ‘Dolminos or Darts’ and ‘Shut My Eyes’ and the ever popular “6 billion people” proved to be a hit with many of the crowd singing and dancing along.

I would have like to hear more songs from the first two albums, and there were some technical difficultes during his performance, however this guy has a clear talent and I really enjoyed the gig.
